July is Disability Pride Month, and this year is the 35th anniversary of signing the ADA. But we know that laws can lack proper funding, laws can be ignored and deliberately misinterpreted, laws don’t change minds or address attitudes, and laws can come and go. What can’t be taken away? Our pride in our cultures and in everything that makes us, us. And that means that if you have a disability pride story to share, please do. If you have another story about grilled cheese, July is the perfect time to share it because every time of the year is the perfect time to talk about cheese. Cheryl talks about cheese quite a bit on her podcast because cheese and disability stories go together. Well, for her they seem to.
What we’re saying is that we at POD Access believe in you, support you, and don’t want you to feel pressured to tell stories the way someone else might suggest you tell them. You can tell whatever story you want, in the way you want. Whatever your story is, whatever your perspective is, whatever your culture is, if you come from a d/Deaf or disabled lens, you’ve got yourself a Disability Pride Month story.
Share the promos, share the love:
Last month, we asked you to send us promos for your podcasts so we can share, and we’ve got one! This captioned promo video is from Disability Deep Dive! It’s got a white screen and purple soundwaves radiating across a horizontal line in the middle as the voices speak. Head over to our Instagram where we’ll also share it, and please share it with your followers. Send us your promos, because we want to share them all.
While you’re on Instagram, tag us @ThePodAccess and let us know what you’re up to with your show, so we can share. Got a picture of you recording in your home studio? What about hanging out on the beach listening to your favorite podcast? Whatever you’re doing that shows your disability pride or you just being your awesome d/Deaf or disabled self!
Join the library and the skill share:
Submit your podcast to our online library. Be sure to check your listing. If there’s anything you need changed, drop us a line. Share with all the d/Deaf and disabled podcasters you know and hey, even the ones you don’t know!
In August, POD Access is going to be doing an online presentation for the community. Stay tuned for more info in the August newsletter about that.
